Fentanyl – Replace Every 72 hours
Current Patch Set Sun. Feb. 11th. 2024, 4:35 PM by User G**********N

There are two types of fentanyl: pharmaceutical fentanyl and illegally made fentanyl. Both are considered synthetic opioids. Pharmaceutical fentanyl is prescribed by doctors to treat severe pain. The majority of deaths from opioids occur from illegally made drugs. While pharmaceutical level drugs can only be obtained with a doctors script they are less dangerous than illegally made fentanyl because they are controlled substance. Fentanyl is classified in the United States as a Schedule II narcotic and as such is still considered very dangerous. Substances in this schedule have a high potential for abuse which may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence. (US DOJ)
Even the right dosage as prescribed by a doctor can kill someone or cause an overdose. The side effects both long and short term are disastrous to the body, and withdrawal is never easy.
I only take medication that has been prescribed by a licensed physician, registered with both the US NPI, the state governing board in which they practice and whom are also licensed with the DEA. Any prescriptions or drugs that are prescribed to me are by pharmacies that are fully licensed by the operating state’s corresponding governing board. For NYS these are outlined here by the New York State Office of Professions, Ohio, the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and for every other state their respective government accreditation and issuing bodies.
But again to bring up the dangers, as detailed in the included medical packets of each prescription:
“Fentanyl is addictive because of its potency. A person taking prescription fentanyl as instructed by a doctor can experience dependence. [These] effects include extreme happiness, drowsiness, nausea, confusion, constipation, sedation, tolerance, addiction, respiratory depression and arrest, unconsciousness, coma, and death.”(US NIH). Awesome, so even at the right dose, being prescribed and monitored by a physician, death isn’t just a far off fair tail, it is a completely active card that has occurred in trials (and of course is proof by the opiod academic), now that I’m on the strongest one can also result through no one’s fault. I avoided narcotics except for the hospitals for over 30 years, now they are a scary reality of my every day life.

Signs of overdose
Recognizing the signs of opioid overdose can save a life.
Here are some things to look for:
• Small, constricted “pinpoint pupils”
• Falling asleep or losing consciousness
• Slow, weak, or no breathing
• Choking or gurgling sounds
• Limp body
• Cold and/or clammy skin
• Discolored skin (especially in lips and nails)
What to do if you think someone is overdosing
It may be hard to tell whether a person is high or experiencing an overdose. If you aren’t sure, treat it like an overdose—you could save a life.
Call 911 Immediately.*
Administer naloxone, if available.**
Try to keep the person awake and breathing.
Lay the person on their side to prevent choking.
Stay with the person until emergency assistance arrives.

There is always a Narcan kit on the kitchen table. There may or may not be one in the bedroom but there will always be one on the kitchen table and it looks like the image below.. Tear open the box and follow instructions. One is always carried on me should I leave the premises and will be on my person or within medical supplies.

Doctors and experts say that it is best to treat anything like an overdose even if it just seems like a high. Treating for an overdose can save lives even if the user is not exceeding their prescribed amounts and using legal sources!
Naloxone can be given to a person to reverse a fentanyl overdose. Multiple naloxone doses might be necessary because of fentanyl’s potency. Even if you use naloxone, you still need to call 911 and seek emergency medical help right away.
