Song: Small Town Trap
Lyrics:
Suffocate from lack of stimulation
......
My heart rate seems to climb
My friend and I stick to the tired couches
Please pass the time
I found a dime under the corner cushion
Wishing it was some place else and so do I
So do I
Small town trap with dreams of breaking out
Here I sit and bake my face is breaking out
Satan's in the living room choking me with apathy
Small town trap with dreams of breaking out
Inspire me cause if you don't I think I'll dissipate to dust
The liar in me says something's gonna happen soon because it must
My friend and I stick to the tired couches
Please pass the time
I found a dime under the corner cushion
Wishing it was some place else and so do I
So do I
Small town trap with dreams of breaking out
Here I sit and bake my face is breaking out
Satan's in the living room choking me with apathy
Time ticks away on the longest day
Wanna break away on the longest day
Community immunity is the shot I crave
A sleepless sleep slow motion dream .....
Small town trap with dreams of breaking out
Here I sit and bake my face is breaking out
Satan's in the living room choking me with apathy

Comments:
“Small Town Trap” is the eleventh and final track off of Eve 6’s 1998 self titled debut album. A ‘small town trap’ is an attraction in an otherwise obscure place that attracts people to come and see it. Sometimes it’s worth seeing, sometimes all the myths and lore just aren’t enough. This song speaks of the difficulty of escaping the inertia (or lack thereof) of that small-town mindset. (https://genius.com/Eve-6-small-town-trap-lyrics)
The Eve 6 Album had a variety of songs ranging from fast beats to slow harmonic rhythms. One connecting thing for all of the songs was time. In “Small Town Trap”, being bored in the living room, and then choked with apathy doubles down on how stuck the singer is. The only thing he can talk about is time ticking away, even on the longest day it somehow passes on though as slow as ever. Being stuck in one place can drive people crazy and the line that “Satan’s in the living room, choking me with apathy”, just resonated with me. There are days where I have no concept of time, I don’t know what I’m doing and somehow the day goes by and whatever happened on that day I seem to forget after a night’s sleep.
To say that Satan is choking me with apathy is brilliant because the devil being who he is, the trickster, makes it seem like something is gonna break and snap to get out of this endless mundane routine. But then because its lack of emotion instead, the apathy floods ones mind so whatever happens, if something does, it doesn’t matter because now the apathetic nature has taken hold. Since its not cared about it’s not remembered or not important. That is what my life feels like on some of the good days.
